Yoga News: Summer Yoga in the Hamptons!

Dear Students, Friends, and Colleagues,

90d6a1ac 80a7 4b45 b755 771b30d86d67Summer is here! And nowhere more beautifully so than in the Hamptons, the world’s most luxurious grownup playground! Although I tend to feel more like a kid than a grownup when I walk the shaded streets to the yoga studio or dip my feet in warm sand (though not the ocean yet–temperatures in the 50s!).

I’ve sublet my West Village shoebox to a young student who loves the idea of summer in the city (God bless him!) and freed myself to enjoy this little corner of paradise.

As always, I’ll be offering group yoga classes (see beow) and private lessons seven days a week through Labor Day. Some are classes I teach year-round (KamaDeva Yoga in East Hampton, Mandala Yoga in Amagansett), others are seasonal gigs (Wolffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack and Love Yoga in Montauk).

If you didn’t have a chance to join me for Yoga in the Vines, our second year of outdoor yoga at  Wolffer Estate Vineyard, you’re in for a treat!  We lay out our mats under a shade tree overlooking a pond, with swans sailing by and sometimes a chorus of happy frogs to cheer us on. We often catch a glimpse of equestrians riding by from the estate stables. (In case of rain, we practice indoors in a lovely room overlooking the indoor riding ring.) To top it off, Wolffer now serves breakfast on the outdoor terrace, so you can refuel after yoga (reservations recommended). I so much enjoy the vineyard that I’d happily move in if they would take me!

At KamaDeva, I’m leading classes Saturday and Monday mornings (both perfect for those of you enjoying extended weekends!), as well as my ever-popular Injury Clinic. If you haven’t been to the clinic, here’s how it works:

  • It’s drop-in, and available free/by donation
  • I work with knees, hips, shoulders, wrists, lower backs, feet, necks-just about anything structural
  • You’ll receive some yummy hands-on adjustments to realign and release tight muscles
  • I will guide you through a customized series of simple exercises to stretch, strengthen, and rebalance your body
  • I take photos of what we do and send them to you afterward, so you can continue on the path to self healing
  • Everyone is welcome, even those who have never set foot in a yoga studio☺

Sunday afternoon we rock Mandala Yoga with my spirited intermediate practice–perfect for anyone who wants to up his or her yoga! And Wednesday evenings I venture to The End (Montauk) to light up Love Yoga with a lively sunset class.

Yoga students become more knowledgeable and are beginning to understand that in group classes “one size doesn’t really fit all.” I’m getting a lot more requests for private lessons, where I can devote my full attention to guiding you through a practice that is both safe and effective for your unique body. You’ll also receive more hands-on adjustments to assist in opening up your tight spots and release unnecessary tension. If you’re dealing with a chronic or acute injury, I can address that too. Finally, if you’ve never tried yoga but feel like it’s time, one-on-one instruction can give you the tools and techniques you’ll need to practice safely in group classes.
