2020-03-28 Virtual Classes and More

Dear Students, Friends, and Colleagues,
When I wrote a week ago (seems like ages), I posed in passing the question:
HOW LONG . . .?
That is, of course, how long are we all going to be sheltered in place, pinned to our domestic points on the map? Out of work, out of step with the ordinary march of time?
Well, depending who you ask, we’ll either be elbow-to-elbow in church on Easter Sunday or hunkered down with dry goods till Thanksgiving or beyond.
No matter where you are, thinking about the future can make you crazy. Too many what ifs, and what thens . . .
But then, so can taking a deep dive into the present, as many spiritual teachers advise. How’s that gonna work if you’re in the throes of an anxiety attack or dark pit of depression?

I don’t have any great suggestions for cultivating the patience the next few days, weeks, and months will require. But I have learned to just put one foot in front of the other. I have an index card on my desk that asks:  WHAT NEXT? It helps me focus on what I can and should do with the next little segment of time, whether that be answering emails, experimenting with housecleaning, or taking a breather to look out the window.
And while you do have some time on your hands, why not come back to the mat and practice yoga? I can honestly say that none of the countless hours I’ve spent on my mat were wasted. I usually emerge feeling a lot better, and cumulatively the practice has made me more lighthearted and resilient—traits I’m drawing on daily to feel joy amid this disaster.
My teaching has not changed in the past week, but the modes of connecting with you all evolve daily! As of now, all of my group classes and private lessons are done via Zoom or Skype. Here’s what’s up:

THE MONEY THING

The elephant in the room. What’s keeping most if not all of us up at night. Yup, it’s scary. And yes, it does look like a low tide sinks all boats. And who knows when the tide will rise again?
I got into teaching yoga before it was a “marketable” profession, or even a job. I’ve never believed that money should come between anyone and their yoga. So, please know that I’m always open to negotiating special rates, discounts for packages, creative barters for goods and services, and freebies for those who just can’t give at this time. Reach out to me by phone or text at 917-075-8009 or send an email.

ONE LAST THOUGHT

Keep things in perspective:
Are you healthy?
Do you have food and water?
Do you have shelter?
That’s more than most people on this planet.
Be well!
Namaste,
Lois
